Mammoth is in full effect for spring. The temperatures have been perfect for the soft snow conditions and the apres ski on the deck! Canyon and Little Eagle are now closed for the 2011/2012 season. Mammoth will be open through Memorial Day from the top to bottom.

We are also excited to announce that the 2012 fishing season has officially opened over the weekend. Crowley was planted with more trout than normal this past yea. Over 500,000 rainbows, cutthroats, and brown trout were planted last fall.  The road to Lake Sabrina is open and the resort is ready for customers. Convict Lake is ice-free and the lakes in the Mammoth Basin are thawing with Lake Mamie already ice-free. Mammoth just received close to 5 feet of new snow over the weekend. This storm was perfect for filling in all the rocks on your favorite runs! The temperatures started off a little above freezing then dropping well below zero to create the champagne powder! The conditions are absolutely perfect. Winter is back and the March miracle in effect!

Are you thinking about coming up and not sure what to do? There are many activities to choose from. With temperatures dropping so low this allowed snow to cover the x-country ski trails off the 395 and also allowed for perfect snowmobiling conditions! June Mountain also received close to 5 feet of snow and now is open top to bottom. This mountain is perfect to bring the family and to enjoy a nice relaxing day without the crowds of Mammoth.

Mammoth received over 55 inches from the past storm and has all lifts running! With a current base of 60 inches, the conditions are unbelievable! Packed powder runs are waiting for you to enjoy them. Mammoth just announced the opening of Jibs Galore which brings the total to seven terrain parks.

Mammoth is getting ready for its yearly Night of Lights! This event will be held at Canyon Lodge on December 17, 2011. This almost two decade old event celebrates the holiday season with a breathtaking firework show. The Village Gondola will be running to Canyon Lodge complimentary so guests of all ages can enjoy the show!

You can either watch the show on the snow or purchase tickets for the VIP viewing area. This night will be filled with an amazing firework show, torchlight parade, and live music! Mammoth Mountain has a lot to offer this 2011/2012 ski season! These changes include the ability to access the slopes faster, a new high-speed quad, a wider range of cities to fly from, new culinary experiences, and a snow park that the whole family can enjoy!

The new high-speed quad will be replacing the fixed-grip triple chair 5, allowing 2,400 people up the hill per hour!  This will be a great place to be on powder days!

Looking to fly to Mammoth? United will be offering San Diego and Orange County resident’s access to Mammoth Yosemite Airport. United is also expanding service from San Francisco International Airport to Mammoth Lakes with a second flight from Friday – Monday.

The new flights will depart daily throughout the winter from San Diego and four days per week from Orange County (Friday – Monday). In addition, air service to and from San Francisco now includes additional Friday – Monday flight service to complement the daily flight service already in existence.

“With nearly $20 million in resort improvements for the coming season, we are continuing to look for innovative ways to excite our guests and allow them to enjoy the best skiing and riding experience anywhere.”, said Howard Pickett, Chief Marketing Officer for Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.

Fall is absolutely beautiful in Mammoth Lakes! The fall leaves are changing each day and creating a breath taking scenery! The leaves turn a vibrant red, orange and yellow from September-November. The crisp cool air of Fall is perfect for day hikes to check out these sights.

The best places to see the changes are:

The Mammoth Lakes Scenic Loop- The scenic loop road is located off of Hwy. 203 as it winds to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and brings you out on Hwy.395 about 5 miles north of Mammoth Lakes.

The Reds Meadow area- Reds Meadow is located past Mammoth Mountain. You will be able to see Devils Postpile National Monument, Rainbow Falls and the San Joaquin River. 

June Lake- June Lake is located 20 miles north of Mammoth Lakes off Hwy 395.
This drive is amazing any time of year, but fall colors make this route especially enjoyable. Follow Hwy 395 north to the south junction of Hwy 158. 

Lee Vining Canyon- This Canyon is located 35 miles north of Mammoth Lakes Take Hwy 395 to the Tioga Pass/Yosemite National Park turnoff Hwy 120, incredible views of the canyon’s fall colors.

Convict Lake- This Lake is located 10 miles south of Mammoth Lakes off Hwy 395. The spectacular views the majestic mountain peaks will offer a great setting for the fall colors.

Rock Creek Canyon- Rock Creek is located 20 miles south of Mammoth Lakes off Hwy 395. Rock Creek is a beautiful, glacier-carved canyon, just off Hwy 395 at Tom’s Place.

In addition, the airline tweaked its schedule with SFO in the hopes that it could alleviate a turnback/cancellation rate of over 30 percent last season.

No longer will the jets have to land in the dark and take off from Mammoth in the dark. Rather, the flights have been moved up to earlier in the day

But the big news comes from Down South.

In the coming ski season, United will offer San Diego and Orange County residents access to Mammoth Yosemite Airport. United is also expanding service from San Francisco International Airport to Mammoth Lakes with a second flight from Friday – Monday.

The new flights will depart daily throughout the winter from San Diego and four days per week from Orange County (Friday – Monday). In addition, air service to and from San Francisco now includes additional Friday – Monday flight service to complement the daily flight service already in existence.

United Express regional partner SkyWest Airlines will operate the flights using 66-seat CRJ700 regional jets which include six first-class and 60 economy seats per plane. The first flights of the season are scheduled to depart Thursday, December 15, from San Francisco and San Diego and Friday, December 16 from Orange County.

The service from the two new markets of San Diego and Orange County has been long-awaited by Mammoth’s many customers in these areas.

“The new service will allow fans of Mammoth in San Diego and Orange County to spend less time in their car and more time on the slopes with the ability to get to Mammoth Mountain in about an hour,” said Howard Pickett, Chief Marketing Officer of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, in a press release.

“The additional flight from San Francisco will greatly benefit out-of-state visitors by providing an additional connection for even easier access to Mammoth through United’s San Francisco hub.”

Mammoth Yosemite Airport also receives year-round flights from Los Angeles and winter seasonal flights from San Jose through Alaska Airlines.

This weekend is filled with excitement! There are many activities that you can do with your friends and family. If you’re the ski enthusiast, the mountain will be open top to bottom all weekend! You can ski your heart out in the morning then jump on your mountain bike and enjoy the bike park in the afternoon! The Mammoth Adventure Center also opens this weekend on July 2nd. This is a great place to bring the kids! You can enjoy some downhill mountain biking or watch your child scale the climbing wall or take an exciting ride on the Zip Line!

The Village at Mammoth will be the spot to be on Sunday to enjoy their breathtaking firework show. You can head over to the Village around 6pm to enjoy the live performance from The Boneshakers followed by the firework show at 9pm. If you can’t get enough of the Fireworks head down to Bishop on the 4th and enjoy their amazing show at the Bishop Airport. Doors will open at 3pm and the Firework show will begin at dusk. They will be charging $20 for each car load. All proceeds will be benefiting the Volunteer Fire Department!
